After bugging out of the meetings, I met up with [livejournal.com profile] lyonesse and [livejournal.com profile] pywaket, who were up in Montréal for an unrelated weekend getaway.

This is the back of the building we saw yesterday, with the ice cream stand?

The paint is peeling. Let's take a look.

I make no apologies for my little obsessions.

Even the Police like arts. And jewelry. And they're gay-compatible police.

Signal. This same sticker was on two storefront windows and the flanking doors.

It's art, it can't be anything else. The one next to it had headphones, to listen to the video clip.

[livejournal.com profile] lyonesse liked the ironwork on the railings and balconies.

It's a boring balcony, but the locals are friendly.

Penises 50% off.

My favourite was the guy center-left, with the feet. The enormous one at center is a "pipe holder".

Under the bridge. Pont Jacques-Cartier at sunset.

Dinner at Le Grain de Sel.
Condiments: "salsa verde" - almost but not quite pesto, India pepper, fleur de sel, onion chutney, and sweet pumpkin? oil.

Happy steak tartare. Happy to be eaten, and [livejournal.com profile] lyonesse is just waiting to eat him.

So this was the 4th of July, which is observed in Canada as the day that comes between the 3rd and the 5th. Which is to say, just another day. Except that Montreal has a summer-long international fireworks competition.

So this was the Australian entry in a Canadian fireworks competition, on July 4. Just so we're clear on it.

The fireworks started as we were finishing dinner, so we high-tailed it directly out to the river, approximately as close to the launch point as we could be (without paying the $25 admission to La Ronde). I took almost 100 shots, of which this one (from the finale) can be representative.

I really didn't need to be at the Sunday meetings, so I took my restaurant notes (and my camera), and wandered.

Ou aimeriez-vous vous réveiller demain?
Where would u wish to wake up tomorrow?

Pink!

This one's for [livejournal.com profile] lyonesse.

As is this one.

Back in Chinatown for bubble tea, and I'm captivated by the side of this building.

On the way out of Montreal, I picked up a guy hitch-hiking to Sherbrooke (less than 20 miles out of my way), got caught in a complete cluster-fuck 10-mile traffic jam in the middle of freaking nowhere Quebec, and had dinner with my friend Dan and his new soul-mate in Vermont. And got home at midnight.
