Finally turned the garden this afternoon. Rented a tiller from the Orange Box, and did in two hours what I usually do in two weekends with a pitchfork and shovel. Of course, it was also about two weekends of effort, wrestling the red robot, and my forearms are killing me, and if I'm dead tomorrow, you'll know who to blame.

Contrary to all previous years, we haven't started any seeds, and in fact bought tomato plants from Tomatomania at the Mass Horticultural plant sale last weekend. Oh, the shame, except they have OMG I've Never Seen That Before, and oh hey, it's a black tomato from Russia. A small corner of the garden is already planted in potatoes (from the Boston Flower Show in March), and most of the garden is planned to be corn. Because we've never gotten a successful crop of corn, and we're not planting a zillion things this year. Except, oh yeah, we also picked up a 4-pack of squash seedlings at the plant sale....

I think the mojo lost from not planting your own seeds is regained by planting things that are wildly different from the norm.
