requiem for a mouse
Dec. 4th, 2003 10:56 amBlaze, the Friendliest Mouse in the WorldTM, has left this world. He was cuddled with the girls in the upstairs area of the cage at 7:45, and laid out dead in the main part of the cage at 8:15. Thankfully, the ground is only frozen to a depth of an inch or so at this point, so we got to have a proper burial. (We had a mouse in the freezer most of last winter.)
This was not the first pet Kylie has lost, but he was, as I think I've mentioned, exceptionally friendly. And it's proper to honor the life and note the passing of pets. We choose to take responsibility for their well-being (food, shelter, health, and socialization). So we put the mouse in mousy hospice (housing a boy with two fertile girls) when it seems appropriate. And we bury even the mice.
