So I did the Merrimac River Trail Race this morning. 10 miles in 1:28:01, which I'm well pleased with. Route details here - out and back along the Merrimac River, mostly flat for the first 3 miles, then some challenging hills (and then you have to go right back over them in the other direction).
Legs are fine, but I got a couple blisters on one foot, and a painful rash on the inner thighs, where my legs (still) rub together. Oh right, this is why I don't wear a kilt more often. Time to try different shorts, and/or compression underwear, and/or prophylactic applications of diaper cream.
I'll never be a Contender, but I know how to dial in a pace that I can stick with, so I'm pretty confident I can do the half marathon in a couple weeks (30% longer, but 65% less elevation gain, and 100% fewer rocks, roots, and stream crossings).
