Don't neglect that preventive maintenance. No, really, I know that and you know that, but then you end up paying the "shit happens" surcharge on top of the service call.

Short form is that our oil burner (which heats the water, among other things) shut itself off last night, as I was preparing to shower. The diagnosis was something like "the fuel line and the filter are clogged with sludge, because the burner hasn't been serviced in about 4 years, you moron." I'm not sure if that last bit was actually on the invoice.

Anyway, it could have been worse. The last time we had the burner serviced was on a holiday weekend in the middle of the winter. Shit happens...
