Nov. 4th, 2003 12:03 amOn the whole, it was just an incredibly nice weekend.
Didn't do the Halloween thing, but on Friday (instead of going to aikido),
lyonesse and I went to a hot-tub-warming, sushi-making, chocolate-souffle-eating, birthday-party kind of thingy.
Leaving there at 1am, I did a lot of what I call Navigating By Driving Around, which is to say I had a general sense of where I was going, and didn't sweat the details, because, hey, this is eastern Massachusetts, and you can't go very far in any direction without running into a highway, and then you'll know where you are.
After way too little sleep, I had my first lesson on my Brand New Skates, which wasn't as bad as it could have been. It looks like Evgenie may be our new permanent instructor, as this is the third week he's taught. The figure skate blades are much flatter front-to-back, and they have this toe pick in front. I know, big surrprise. It really messed with my crossovers, which I guess I've been doing All Wrong. Also, the blades are much sharper and grippier than I'm used to, so when I tried to do a hockey stop, I kept going in a curve. They're going to take some getting used to.
Sat night, we went to Steve & Aimee's house-warming, where Francie met someone else with Swedish-speaking Finnish relatives, and got to boggle his mind with tales of Moominworld.
The only downer was when we got home at half-past-late, one of Kylie's mice was dead. Sarah was the last of her original 3 mice, and pretty much died of old age (at 2 years). It wasn't unexpected, and Kylie had been making a point of playing with her for the last couple months, but it wasn't what we wanted to come home to. She wants to get one or two more females to keep Misty company, and she wants to breed Misty to one of the boys (probably Blaze, the Friendliest Mouse on Earth).
Sunday bike ride. It had just rained, and Kylie got cold hands and a wet back - need gloves and fenders. And horse ride. Cheyenne was his usual good/bad (but not indifferent) self, which was fine. I'm comfortable dealing with a horse who acts up, especially when I know how he's going to act up. It's honestly less frustrating than a horse you have to kick into a trot.
Today, I finally received my new PDA. Except it doesn't boot. Doesn't respond to the power button, the application buttons, or the reset button. Sent some nasty email to buy.com, and we'll see how long it takes to get a replacement.
