After some deliberation, and frequent crashes, we replaced the PC that has become Francie's email and writing platform with a newer, smaller, faster, stronger, and downright cuter machine, viz:

And when the PC is turned off, it functions as a stereo - it plays radio, audio CDs, and MP3 CDs.

It's only available as a bare-bones machine, so I had to separately buy the processor, memory, hard disk, and CD/DVD drive. OTOH, I got exactly what I wanted, and no more than I wanted, and it was fairly trivial to assemble.

A couple days installing the OS and apps, a couple more days configuring things, and moving things over from the old box, and Francie's up and writing again.

Yesterday, we went to the tack shop to get new riding helmets. The people who make, market, and sell helmets recommend that you replace them every 5 years. Even so, mine was about 18 years old, and Francie's about 12 years. I got the Troxel Antiquus, and Francie (who's just gone back to riding after 10 years) got the Tipperary Sportage. The Sportage has better protection for the back of the head, and actually a very nice fit, but I've never fallen on my head. Besides, I just prefer the look of the Antiquus.

And the Equestrian Shop was running a 15%-off sale on helmets. Pock!

Also, new mouse cage, new bicycle handlebar. And of course, Kylie's tuition for next year.

And I want a new digi-cam. And we're going on (separate) trips to the UK in the next couple months...
