This is the overdue post about the road trip (a week ago today) to freakin' Vermont to see Sunna, the Icelandic mare.

First of all, it's nearly to Burlington - all the way diagonally across NH and most of the way diagonally across VT = 3+ hours each way. Then the owner has to meet us at the bottom of the driveway, and ferry us up in her 4-wheel-drive studded-snow-tire truck (it's that steep and slippery). Not to mention I had already dragged a vet and a chiropractor out to look at Gemini. This better be some pony, eh?

This is probably the best picture of her in motion. She's some pony, but (long story short, and you already knew this) I didn't end up loving her more than Gemini.

A lot of it is communication - I had great communication with Gemini from the moment I got on her - through voice cues, head cues, leg cues, seat cues, and (possbibly) telepathy.

With Sunna, well, she's Icelandic, so speaks English perfectly, but with a (charming) Icelandic accent. (Actually, she only knows voice commands in Icelandic, not in English at all, but I'm making an analogy here.) Anyway, we spent a while trying to come up with a common vocabulary to communicate.

Contrast this with [livejournal.com profile] lyonesse's pony Stjarni, who understands English perfectly, but who claims not to understand me, and who insists on talking to me in slow, clear, loud Icelandic.

Anyway, Sunna.
