Tuesday is the day I pick up Kylie from school, and I offered her several fine options for a fabulous afternoon - biking, hiking, skating, climbing, etc. What she chose was ponies-n-kittens.

We started by finishing Sunday's shedding job. Woody (I think it was Woody) is a total dear - no trouble to catch, stands nicely while being worked on, asking only the occasional carrot. We shed him, brushed him, combed his mane (also shedding terribly), and picked his feet. These horses still have their winter shoes! Blackjack (I think it was Blackjack) was not so ready to be caught, stood nicely for a while, while we did the bulk of the grooming work, but then he started pacing and pawing, and it was time to let him go back to the herd. But they both look so much better now.

After that, Cheyenne was a cinch to groom (although he's overly fond of lying in the mingled mud, hay, and manure that surrounds the manger). We did some more of Sunday's ground work (walk and whoa, circles, cones, backing up). He didn't side-step as neatly as when I had two qualified instructors instructing me, but he did one pass passably. I let Kylie walk him for a while, doing the same things. She's so serious sometimes (grim, even) that it can be hard to tell whether she's enjoying it, though she said she was. Then, more kittens. Always the kittens.
