Even after all the time spent on the compooter, there's nothing to make a project real like holding a full-scale mock-up in your hand.

Among other things, I had to do this to prove to myself that the foldout program grid pages would actually work with the page sizes I'd set. There's math and logic, and then there's prototyping.

The fold-outs worked just fine, but I discovered a need to reformat the Friday grid. And sure enough, once I had was leafing through the actual paper, I found a number of niggling typos that everyone had missed on the previous proofing rounds.

So anyway, the Pocket Program is done and delivered to the printer. Read. Enjoy. Feel free to tell me what I got wrong (I've found a couple more typos post-delivery, and I'm aware of some changes to the program), but there's nothing so wrong as to require resubmitting it to the printer.

And then there's this picture I had forgotten taking at our New Year's Day party.

I'm glad we have so many good friends.

The way I work is this: I pick the title font to match the souvenir book cover art. Period. If it works for other stuff, great; if not, oh well, pick something else for that.

I've been looking for a project to use this font for a while now, and when I saw the artwork the conchair had chosen for the cover, I was like "Yes. Oh yes. Fuck yes."

Then for the pocket program, I was in an incredible rush, and grabbed a piece of artwork that a) fit on the cover, b) I hadn't used yet, and only at c) fit with the font.

I think it's a good match (although the artwork is more Art Deco), and I love Art Noveau, but if I was consciously trying for a Noveau treatment, I would have put a lot more ornamentation on the cover, or at least a twining border. Alas, and I wish I had.

The interior is a bit more utilitarian, I'm afraid, but it does mention you several times. :)

I must admit I was warmed by seeing all the shoes; it's a sight that evokes memories of many happy events. Of course, I then started trying to figure out if I could ID any of the shoes' owners. ;-D

[need I even mention how much I *hate* missing your NYD parties?]

As the first arrival, I feel compelled to note that quite a few of those shoes were already there. :-)
