After Thanksgiving dinner, my mother gifted me with these items from my past.

Father's Day, 1973. I was 9, and yes, I was in the Cub Scouts. (In fact, I went on to the Boy Scouts, and remained there until the end of high school.)

The photo is blurry because it's behind glass, and the scanner doesn't deal well with that. The black border is 35 year old sticky tape, so getting a better scan would require destructive disassembly.

Father's Day, undated, but it looks like a year or two later. We'll ignore the schmoop inside - it's neither good nor original. Let's just have a close-up of the photo instead.

Finally, another writing sample, and another snapshot of me at age 10 (click pic for higher resolution).

My mother pointed out that "programmer" wasn't on my list of career goals. I did work as a cook for a while, but that seems a fairly coincidental correspondence.

The subject line comes from a song by Poi Dog Pondering, although that's an ode to the singer's dead mother. But it's the first thing that popped into my head. Maybe Barenaked Ladies: That's Me In Grade 9 5, or What A Good Boy.

I wonder how many of those childhood career thoughts you've incorporated into your adult life, whether through your actual career, other activities you've done, or otherwise (reading about it, writing about it...)
