beach riding log
Apr. 2nd, 2010 09:41 pmCrane Beach is open to horses from October through March, so Wednesday was the last day of the season, and damn if I was going to miss that. The rain had finally let up, but there was still local flooding, so we took a rather longer route, and didn't get there until 4:30. Storm damage was very visible on the beach - lots of erosion, and a massive washed-up harbor buoy. Oh, and they were chipping downed trees in the main parking lot, so we parked in the smaller overflow lot, with the half dozen other end-of-season horse trailers.
Anyway, it was another fabulous beach ride with my fabulous horse. I remembered my helmet this time, but forgot my chaps, so got a huge abrasion where the inner seam of my jeans bunched up and scraped my tender calf. But so worth it! That girl can fly! We had 3 or 4 full-out (but not out of hand) gallops, and a lot of nice WTC. She's getting some good stamina, just needs to muscle up a little more. And no problem getting on the trailer (unlike last time). Have I mentioned that I love my horse?
