stockholm sculpture
Aug. 12th, 2014 11:55 amA small sampling of public art in Stockholm. I just spent a stupid amount of time trying to locate where most of these are in the city.
Let's start with the most elaborate street sign evar. The stone that the central figure is holding reads "Drottninggatan" (Queen Street) on one side, "Kungsgatan" (King Street) on the other side, and in the center, something like "QV Vinklehaken", where a vinklehake is a type of mason's square. (Apologies for the quality of the phone-cam pic. I was walking from the train station to my hotel, and I should have busted out the good camera right then and there.)

Concrete lions, guarding the pedestrian street of Drottninggatan.

On the back of a former naval building on Skeppsholmen.

In Tegnérlunden park.

Myrstedt & Stern, Kungsgatan. These animals are at the base of ornamental pillars.

Corner of Hamngatan and Kungsträdgårdsgatan.

Kungsträdgården.

Somewhere in Gamla Stan.

I think this is on the Riksdag (Parliament).

Mellow lions guard the Norrbro bridge.

Some king or other.

I don't even remember, possibly also the Riksdag.

Bears give bear hugs.

Not really sculpture, but these folks were playing with the underfoot gravel.
