1984 Cabernet (Stevenot Calaveras County): undrinkable

1989 Cabernet (Stevenot California): "drinkable" mulled, for very liberal values of "drinkable"

1998 Cabernet/Syrah (Swanson Alexis): we have more hope, but will try another day

Were these wines you've had a while? If so, how were they stored?

(Reason I ask was that a longish time ago, I was given a 1983ish French Bordeaux of some kind, and me and my wine making friends drank it 9 years ago, and it was really good.)

A couple years ago, we bought a roll-the-dice case of cabs in a public-radio wine auction. They'd apparently been donated years before and forgotten. I don't know how they were stored before or during that period, but they've been in our cellar since. To be fair, there were a few spectacular bottles and a number of good ones, as well as the stinkers.
