Monday eve, we went to the Revels with [livejournal.com profile] lyonesse, her elf, and elf's parents (courtesy of the parents, I think). It was a Scottish theme this year, and I don't whether it was the thick faux-Scottish accents, or the acoustics in the balcony, but it was hard to make out a lot of the words. Still, it was a good show, but I may want to get the CD when it's available, to hear what actually transpired.

We went to church last night for the basest of all reasons - because I wanted to sing some more. Singing at the Revels is like singing in church - you can sing loud without embarrassment, and if you're not sure of the tune, the crowd will carry you along. I don't get enough of that in my life, and there isn't enough participatory singing at the Revels.

In the car on the way home, Francie reminded me why we don't often sing together. We don't harmonize well, because my comfortable range isn't compatible with her comfortable range. Either I'm in the baritone range, and she has to reach too high, or I have to dip into the bass range, which only works on some pieces.

So anyway, we went to the Christmas Eve service at the Reading Unitarian Church. We brought along Francie's mother, who's an actual Unitarian (not that anyone aked or cared). As usual, despite planning to arrive early, we got there just at 7, and had to sit in a side room. It has two wide doorways into the nave, but with a 10' wall in between, which blocked the view of the pulpit, and blocked at least 50% of the sound from the nave. This was disappointing, but it was still a pretty good time.

This Christmas is more of a process than a single event. There was the Revels, the Eve, and the Day. Tomorrow is Francie's mother's 75th birthday party (which we're hosting). Saturday, my family is coming to visit and exchange presents. (I still have to get presents for my parents and one of my brothers.) Then a couple days down-time, before our New Years Day party.

Kylie is currently throwing around her HoverDisc - a 3-ft wide inflatable mylar frisbee. She's managed to avoid breaking anything. So far.

Turkey from the local poultry farm. Much much better than frozen processed supermarket bird. Maple-orange mashed sweet potatoes. Ginger-pear cranberry sauce.
And later, turkey soup.

Tomorrow, home-made gravlax. Vegan sweet-potato shepards pie. Sesame-encrusted fried tofu. Chicken-liver paté, stuffed mushrooms, spinach balls. Jansson's Temptation. Cake and ice cream. We're cooking for the whole family, and they better come.
