Finally managed to get someone in to service the oil burner this morning. At 8:15 this morning. Before we were out of bed this morning.

Got the boiler fixed, oh whenever ago, but hadn't actually fired it up. Saturday morning was a little chill, so...no go, blower motor starts up and shuts off. Phone call - no, it's not working, but no, it's not urgent enough to pay weekend rates, please call us Monday morning with an idea when you're going to show up.

Anyway, guy shows up, farts around for a while, and after he leaves, I notice oil dripping all over the basement floor. He's gone, call back (wait on hold, wait on hold), he eventually comes back. Bad oil pump, another $$ please. Oh, and you should get a cleanout, I didn't do a cleanout because you didn't ask for a cleanout, and I'm too busy to do a cleanout today, please call the office. Argh.

But, anyway, heat, without oil leaking all over the basement floor. :/

And if the gas company had their shit together, we'd be on gas now, and not throwing good money after oil. Fffffffkkkk!

from last week's Globe: Utilities may limit new natural gas connections. The story is about Western Mass., but I wonder if your local gas company is encountering similar supply problems and is reluctant to add new customers?

You need a new oil company. That one you have is useless. No quality oil company would leave with oil actively dripping. None of this "eventually comes back" they should get there NOW since oil dripping is not only a fire hazard, but it is a hazardous waste spill, which turns your home into a superfund-like site with super expensive cleanup. And real quality companies don't wait for the owner to ask for services that the owner doesn't even know exist, or that the owner doesn't know the proper name for.

Get a new company!!

Would you like the contact info of the oil company that our landlord uses? He manages several properties around here and has done so for years. I suspect that he'd know good companies from bad ones.

(sorry that was meant as a new comment to [livejournal.com profile] kirkcudbright, not a reply to [livejournal.com profile] koshmom. ::waves to [livejournal.com profile] koshmom::)

hi! ::waves

I like my oil company, but I have a feeling that my company which is located in my town is a little too far away from kirkcudbright's home.

Note that many oil companies used to send out notices to get an annual contract with them, and if you sign up you get a book of monthly coupons that give you a deal on oil (such as $100 off per month) but you have to remember to include a ticket from the book with each payment, and eventually you forget or lose the booklet...
