bikes and shrooms
Aug. 17th, 2003 10:15 pmI finally made good on my promise to Kylie yesterday, and bought her a tag-along bike (an Adams Trail-a-Bike). I spent a couple hours last night putting it together (it's made in Canada, but the instructions have been translated from French to Japanese to Greek, and then to English). We took it out for a test drive today in the Harold Parker State Forest, on a half-mile paved fire road - rode the length of it a couple times to get the feel of the bike. This isn't going to teach Kylie how to ride a bike on her own, but it may show her what it's like to ride, and why I ride.
Later in the day (after horse-back riding), I found a righteous stash of boletus bicolor mushrooms in my neighbor's driveway. They're not quite as fine as the boletus edulis that Phil's been picking at work, but very tasty nonetheless. Many were either too old or too maggoty (or both) to bother picking, but I did end up with a pound of flesh. I cooked a sample into scrambled eggs, and I dusted off the dehydrator to dry the rest.
