So they're tearing down the house next door to put in a road for 10 new McMansions. About a month ago, they cut down all the trees. A week and a half ago, they took out the pool, the two cabanas, and everything else in the back yard. Today, they took out the house.

A couple weeks ago, when the ice was melting in earnest on the fish pond, Francie pulled away an oak leaf, and found this leaf-shaped hole. In the leaf impression, you're seeing the reflection of a pine tree (the only large pine left in the former neighbors' former back yard), and at the edge of the ice, the reflections of the oaks.

On Sunday, the microwave handle came off in my hand. It's a nice unit in general, but we've already replaced the (rigid yet flimsy) handle once, an event that culminated in a service call to have someone take apart and re-assemble the door. Anyway, superglue wasn't going to fix this, and any replacement was going to break again, so I made a new handle. It turns out the best sized stock I had was 5/8" cedar, which is light and attractive as well. It's currently finished with linseed oil and paste wax; I may yet paint it black to match the microwave, but probably not.

Oh, and my tomatoes are finally starting to sprout. Yay tomatoes!
