Mar. 27th, 2005 03:55 pmMy XP laptop crashed last night, which I took as a sign to go to bed. However, it didn't come back up this morning. It gets partway through the boot sequence, flashes a blue screen for a fraction of a second, and hangs hard. I have the "System Recovery" disk, but this does a destructive re-install of the OS. This would be extremely annoying, but not entirely catastrophic. But before I do that, I'd at least like to look at the file system, and maybe move some data off the disk. I've tried bootdisk.com, but they don't seem to have anything that will boot the machine and understand an NTFS file system.
The kicker is that I was working on an assignment that's due tomorrow evening. It's an art piece in Corel Painter, which I have to confess I'm not totally loving.
Anyway, does anyone know of a good quick PC repair shop north of Boston?
