1984 Cabernet (Stevenot Calaveras County): undrinkable

1989 Cabernet (Stevenot California): "drinkable" mulled, for very liberal values of "drinkable"

1998 Cabernet/Syrah (Swanson Alexis): we have more hope, but will try another day

heat

Recall that we haven't had heat since June, when the oil boiler died. We'd already been talking about/planning to switch to gas, so this was the boot in the ass we needed.

Through a series of fuck-ups, mostly due to National Grid, we didn't have a service agreement until late July, and they didn't apply for the curb-cut permit until the end of August, at which point the town was like "WTF no, we just repaved your street, don't disturb our precious new pavement".

We could have (maybe) gotten a tie-in from the side street, but that would have required quick action from a) the gas company, b) the town, and c) the plumber (who let us know he already has 3 other gas boiler installations before the weather turns cold).

So Plan B is/always was that Steve the plumber would fix the failed oil boiler, to get us through the winter, and we'll re-visit the gas conversion in the spring. Which happened today, along with 3 other while-you're-here jobs.

*Sigh*. This was not Plan A (or even A.1), but it's not Plan C, which involved the fireplace and multiple electric space heaters.

But. We have heat (at least, after we get the burner serviced), plus we have a) a guest bathroom tub/shower that's not cold-water-only, b) a kitchen faucet water filter, and c) no more house water filter, because that was a pile of rust and fail.
