Jul. 31st, 2004 12:14 am1) I taught my first aikido class this evening. Two people showed up. Of course, the reason I was teaching was because most of the dojo is at summer camp in Villanova, Pennsylvania. However, I can think of 4 people (who rank me) who aren't going to camp, who didn't come to class. Ah well, Friday classes are usually small at the best of times. We did bokken and jo kata, ki testing, and a couple ki throws. We also practised picking up a bokken from a roll, and I practiced jumping and rolling over a 4-ft judo mat. It's nice that I've got distance now, but I'd like to get more height. I piled on a second judo mat, but that made a pile 4'×4'×3' high, and that was a bit daunting.
b) I got the motorcycle insured and registered this week. Now I just need to get it running. It's been in the garage for 8 years, and last winter we had a problem with mice in the garage (attracted by the 50# sacks of bird seed, no doubt). They chewed the Tool Towel™, peed on the registration card, and left seed hulls everywhere. They may or may not be responsible for the fuel leak. I just picked up a siphon, because the usual way of draining the fuel tank results in fuel leaking all over the outside of the engine. So I'm going to drain and pull the fuel tank tomorrow, and have a look a the fuel lines. I wasn't really planning to fix the bike myself, but the local shop won't take it until the end of the summer.
