Two things I did this evening:

  1. My Visor broke last week. The display (the LCD bit) is fine, but the glass in front of the display (the digitizer) took a hard blow from the side, and is all kinds of cracked over the graffiti area. I spent a while looking at replacement PDAs (don't need, don't want, can't afford state of the art) before I remembered that I still have my last Visor, which I've been cannibalizing for parts. While it has a broken display, it has an intact digitizer. The most complicated part was un-soldering the metal framework that holds the display and the digitizer together. Behold, it has arisen from the dead!

Then Francie asked me to look at her Visor, which has been eating batteries at an alarming rate. It's been sitting with the batteries in it since May, and there's some obvious corrosion on the battery terminals. But what the heck, maybe there's a short on the button board (to which the battery terminals are attached). And I don't even have to solder anything.

So now I have a case (slightly cracked), a motherboard, and a suspect button board. I'll keep it around until something else breaks.

  2. I'm getting kicked off of apocalypse.org. Sigh. I've had that address for about 10 years, and it's been my primary address for over 6 years. But it gets a lot of spam, and John has a point that I don't need it anymore.

So anyway, I've been shovelling files off apocalypse for a while (onto another borrowed server, ironically), and I finally threw the big switch - I put in the .forward, and sent the announcement. There are still a bunch of files I need to get, but I don't live there anymore...
