I've taken Kylie to the local climbing gym a couple of times for kids classes, but tonight was the first time I've been there for myself. 3 hour class, about half of which was spent on the basics of how to put on the harness, tie in, safety, signals, how to belay; then practice climbing. I had a few good climbs, but I got overly ambitious and wore myself out on one wall that I probably had no business being on, and wasn't able to complete anything after that. Good lord, but my arms and hands are sore. I definitely need to work on technique, but I also need to strengthen the old upper body. On the plus side, I really learned to trust my belayer...

I'm curious as to what difficulty level it was; it has been far far too long since I was in climbing-shape (haven't climbed since we left the gym in B'more).

I'll bet Kylie is a total natural. She climbs all the time anyway. ;-)

It was listed as 5.6. I think he said that's on the Yosemite scale, whatever that means. Everything there was 5.3 to 5.13 or so. In any case, this was an inward-slanting wall, and I should stick to at least vertical for a while.

Kylie professes to enjoy the rock gym, so we've been going Fridays after school. It's also just down the road from teh Crate & Barrel outlet store.
