1. Replace the waterbed heater. It's been running continuously for 15 years, so maybe it's not surprising that it finally quit. But it was most inconvenient, because the heater is smack-dab center under the liner under the mattress, so there was no way we could just slide it out. I mean, we're talking about a 6'x7' vinyl bag with 200 gallons of water in it. Drain the mattress, remove the old heater, install the new, and refill. We found a couple pens, a stud earring, and various other pointy things under the mattress (but no leaks). Oh, and did I mention that our hot water heater is a standard 40 gallon tank heater? So we had to stop the filling several times, to let it recover. And we're still likely to be sleeping on a cold waterbed tonight, because it takes a while to heat 200 gallons of water.

[livejournal.com profile] tamidon and I have never bothered with a waterbed heater. There are enough layers of insulation between us and the actual water to make that the least bit worthwhile.
