For the last couple months, I've been sporting a beard sans moustache (e.g. Abraham Lincoln or C. Everett Koop, minus the authority, dignity, or gravitas). I've been realizing how socially inactive I've been lately by the number of people who have been genuinely surprised to see it. But it's okay, it's gone now.

Francie always hated it (I use that word extremely sparingly, but it's accurate here). Francie despised it, and Vicka derided it, and Kylie was at best oblivious to it (it took her a week to notice that the mustache had gone, but only 12 hours to notice that the beard had gone).

So, the face reappeared this morning as a Mothers Day present - cheap, but entirely personal, non-fattening, and low-maintenance.

Boy I am out of it I didn't know you could grow a beard.

It happens every 5-6 years, generally doesn't stay long, because Francie hates it. The last time was in 2000, around the time of Elizabeth & Jason's wedding (there are pictures, so I know that's when it was). As far as I know, there are no pictures of this one. No great loss...

Far be it from me to deride anyone's choice of personal adornment... I though it made you look like a Mennonite or whoever those folks are in PA who use horses and buggies. If you could only get GG to wear a little white bonnet...

When I was biking cross country, we stayed at an Econo Lodge in Wooster Ohio, where some Mennonites were also staying. The kids were allowed to go in the public swimming pool, but the girls had to do so fully clothed, in full length dresses. (I don't recall seeing any boys in the pool area, so I can't say what restrictions they were under.) Needless to say, that doesn't fit well with my world view, but I do like horses and buggies...

Bah, if you shave once, then you have to shave again.

Funny; I'm a great supporter of facial hair and I think most guys' appearances are vastly improved by it. But you were one of the few I've said looked good with a bare face.

Sorry I never saw the actual proof (or disproof, as it may be)

I'm glad to have missed it... I am quite fond of your face, and I doubt it was improved by, ummm, hair. Especially not one of those C. Everett Koop beards. They aren't a good look for anyone.
