While I'm here and posting things, here's something I recently found (and left) in my neighbor's trash.

Yes, it really is as flimsy and as dangerous as it looks. OTOH, he probably treated it with the caution (and phear) it deserves.

Well yes, he threw it away.

I have to wonder if it's only 'cause the motor burned out.

It's a setup for the new reality show (currently in R&D/pilot phase) _Darwin Test_. There's a camera trained on it, and the hidden TV crew will follow the person who takes it, plant hidden cameras in *their* home workshop, and wait. If/When it bleeds, it leads!

Wow. That is absolutely beautiful. I congratulate you for the restraint to leave it in the trash... that would have been a hard one for me.

I dunno-- seems that the motor might work, and if it does, that's at least 1/3 HP. Maybe even 1/2 HP. I'd have considered snaring it for that (and maybe the arbor,) chucking the rest in next week's garbage.

Not that scary, as my grandfather's table saw (still in service at my mother's house) is a Sears table w/outboard motor connected by a belt. I wouldn't have kept it in service, as I like my own, but the motor/arbor would have a home...

my dad made something like that out of, iirc, a washing machine motor. i think it might've had slightly fewer safety features, tho.

Looks like something you'd see on a horror movie set.

Yipes. I'm disturbed by the actual sawdust next to it, though I guess that's better than blood and severed fingers.

Mind if I post the picture on a woodworking forum?

By all means, share and enjoy.

(Most of my email moved to another machine, and I forgot that LJ notifications were still going to the old address.)
