Last night, [livejournal.com profile] lyonesse and I ate at Machu Picchu in Union Square. Good, down-home Peruvian food. Not specatcular, but solid, and well prepared. She had ceviche, served in large lettuce leaf with sides of cold sweet potatoes, toasted corn, and some kind of fresh shell bean. I had steak with fries, fried plantains, and rice with a fried egg over the top. The egg made me think of bi bim bop, though the rest of the dish was completely unlike. The steak was the sort that made a good steak sandwich today. Oh, and there was this drink made from purple corn, with bits of chopped corn floating in it. Anyway, good stuff.

This was the first class of the new skating session. Kylie and her friend Julia have been promoted to Basic 4, and good for them, but their class is now at 9:00 (same time as Francie and me), instead of 11:20. I dropped Kylie off at Julia's, got to the rink in time to be not unreasonably late, then had to turn around and fetch them. (If you've ever tried to get 2 kids out of the house, you know it can't be done efficiently.) Long story short, we got to the rink and got our skates on just in time to fully miss our lessons. But we stayed for the half-hour practice session, so it wasn't a total loss.

Kylie's birthday party. Third time's the charm.

Eight 8- and 9-year-old girls could cause far more trouble than this lot, but it wasn't a tea party.

The closest we got to trauma was when one guest, backing away from the piñata-basher, fell into the fish pond. Fell through the ice into the fish pond. Of course she's bigger than Kylie - nearly everyone is - so the clean-and-dry clothes were a poor fit, but she took it well.
